Week Five

Sept 25- Oct 1, 2020

This week we are going to build a new railing at the front, we start by cutting off the old metal pipe railing.

With the old railing off we repair the cracked and pitted areas with new cement and paint the stairs to match the bottom of the house.

We are going to build a wooden railing with a nice design feature, I start by attaching 4x4 posts with anchor bolts and L brackets.

Then I build the design feature into the railing portions between the posts.

Next we remove the popcorn ceilings in the living rooms and bedrooms, luckily it had never been painted so it is just a matter of dampening it with a spray bottle and scrapping it off.

Next we are going to  install a new window in the back bedroom , the old window was an original wooden single pane one that was cracked, this window was much too large for a bedroom, so we will have to frame up a portion of the opening in order to accommodate the new size we are installing..

On the outside, we cover the plywood, sheathing wrap,  with finish it with siding we found in the garage, you will never know there was ever a larger window there once we paint it.

Next we replace the basement window on the west side of the house, again the old window was a fixed single pane wooden frame, we put in a smaller window so we have room to run the exhaust vent from the dryer in the opening.

Finally, this week we remove the wall between the Kitchen and the living room, to really open up this space. Its a lathe and plaster wall, and it is a really dusty process.
